International Surfing Day x Free Online Screening of Musica Surfica to Benefit Surfrider

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York Surf Film Festival and Vita Coco pledge $1 per online viewer of Musica Surfica to Surfrider Foundation in the spirit of International Surfing Day

June 20, 2011 – New York, NY – The New York Surf Film Festival is pleased to announce the launch of the digital screening room today with a special 48 hour online screening of the 2008 NYSFF Feature Film Winner, Musica Surfica by Mick Sowry.  In honor of International Surfing Day, Vita Coco and the NYSFF are pledging $1 per viewer of the film to Surfrider Foundation, up to 1,000 views or $1,000.

“The idea for this initiative came to us when trying to get some friends to leave their offices on International Surfing Day to clean up the local NYC beaches,” said Morgan Rae Berk, Founder of the NYSFF.  “Since they couldn’t exactly ditch out on work on a Monday, we wanted to develop a way for office-goers to feel they contributed to the spirit of the day.  Buy rebirthing old surf films from our archives and partnering with Vita Coco to donate funds, we are able to give our local and global audience a great film to watch online so they too can participate in ISD.”

The New York Surf Film Festival digital screening room is hosted on the NYSFF Facebook page and will support its partner non-for-profit foundations all summer long through a series of online film screenings.   For  updates about future online screenings and the 2011 NYSFF, fans can follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
