Sixth Annual New York Surf Film Festival Returns to NYC Fall 2013

March 12, 2013 New York, NY – The annual New York Surf Film Festival [NYSFF] has officially opened 2013 submissions for our sixth installment in NYC coming Fall 2013. The NYSFF is the premiere international surf film event, celebrating independent short and feature films, cult classics, and world premieres from established and emerging surf filmmakers. Continuing our annual tradition to the surf community in New York City, the

NYSFF has crafted a global platform that empowers aspiring filmmakers with shoestring budgets to expose their work to a wider audience. The New York City surf and general art communities pack the theaters to appreciate the creativity and beauty of surf film, celebrate these selected filmmakers, hear their inspirational stories and participate in intimate Q&A sessions with films’ production teams.

The New York Surf Film Competition is open to feature-length and short films in the surf genre. In order to be considered for the Festival’s Film Competition, submitted films must have been completed after July 2008. The running time for features must be greater than 30 minutes. Short films under 30 minutes in length are eligible for participation in the Short Film Program. Submissions are open thru June 30, 2013.

The NYSFF is a proud member of the Global Surf Film Festival Collective (GSFFC), a streamlined one-stop submission process to worldwide surf film festivals. The New York Surf Film Festival joins this association of film festivals to share films and ideas in an effort to unify the global surf film festival community for both filmmakers and fans.

The online submission form and complete information regarding eligibility and entry rules for the 2013 New York Surf Film Festival are available on our website at www.NYSurfFilm.com. Filmmakers can point their browse to gsffc.org, fill out a simple electronic submission form, and securely upload films and other supporting documents accessible to the GSFFC’s associated festival curators. Each festival maintains its’ own unique program and independently chooses their film lineup. Acceptance to one festival does not necessarily imply acceptance to all. Individual festivals will reach out to filmmakers direct to secure films for their individual festival lineup. Festival’s submission close dates are year round. Kindly check individual festival websites for important dates, deadlines, rules, guidelines and general information for each festival. The mission of the New York Surf Film Festival is to provide filmmakers who are exploring the diversity of surfing an opportunity to present their work to a larger audience. As surf culture becomes more popular, the notion of what it means to be a surfer expands. The New York Surf Film Festival’s aim is to build upon and shape the idea of what surf movie is, while fostering the growth of this global community in NYC.
